Telegram to Open Office in Kazakhstan

Minister of Digital Development, Innovation and Aerospace Industry of the Republic of Kazakhstan Zhaslan Madiyev held meetings with the US Chamber of Commerce and representatives of American companies Meta and Apple, Kazpravda.kz reports with reference to the press service of the Ministry of Digital Development
The head of the ministry announced that an agreement had been reached with Telegram to establish a representative office and open an office in the country.
The discussions raised key issues related to data security, combating fake accounts and protecting user rights.
"We are actively working with Telegram to promptly remove illegal content and block destructive channels. In accordance with the requirements of our legislation, Internet platforms such as Telegram, WhatsApp and TikTok are required to have a representative in Kazakhstan. The opening of a Telegram office is an important step to increase control over content," Madiyev noted.
In addition, as part of these meetings, work has begun with Meta to combat fraudulent schemes.
Meta representatives emphasized that the online fraud that Kazakhstan faces is a common problem for many countries. In the last quarter, Meta blocked more than 1.2 billion fake accounts worldwide using modern artificial intelligence technologies.
