44-year-old Kazakh woman becomes mother after 11 unsuccessful attempts

10.12.2024

Thanks to the efforts of specialists, the pregnancy was brought to the 34th week

A woman with a risk of miscarriage was admitted to the City Perinatal Center No. 2 of Almaty in the 15th week of pregnancy,  Kazpravda.kz reports  with reference to the Ministry of Health

The patient is reported to be 44 years old. She has 11 unsuccessful pregnancies behind her: all the children died in utero. Two IVFs also ended in failure – the fetus died in the fifth month of pregnancy. This was her last chance to become a mother.

"We held a consultation and referred the patient to a hematologist. She was diagnosed with antiphospholipid syndrome, which had not been diagnosed before. It was the cause of the constant termination of pregnancy. We began treatment, which helped prevent complications," said Svetlana Rakhimova, director of City Perinatal Center No. 2.

During her pregnancy, the woman was under the supervision of the center's doctors seven times. Thanks to the efforts of specialists, the pregnancy was brought to the 34th week. All this time, the patient received treatment for the main diagnosis, as well as therapy aimed at controlling high blood pressure, which reached 180 mm Hg. In addition, the woman had severe preeclampsia.

"We performed the delivery at 34 weeks, and a long-awaited boy weighing 2,700 grams was born. We have now discharged the mother and baby, and they are all fine," noted Svetlana Rakhimova.

It is especially touching that throughout all these years the woman's husband remained by her side. He supported her in all her endeavors, underwent treatment with her and experienced IVF failures.

"For us, doctors, this is a great joy. When you see the result of your work - the cry of a newborn and the happy faces of parents - you understand that your work is not in vain," the doctor says.

The patient does not hide her gratitude to the doctors for saving the long-awaited baby:

"I never lost hope, and thanks to the doctors, I was able to become a mother. They supported me at every stage, saved me and my baby. These emotions cannot be described in words - this is the happiness I dreamed of my whole life!" - said the new mother.

The patient and her husband are now enjoying a new stage in their lives – they have become parents of a long-awaited boy.
