19.07.2023

Symptoms of an unknown disease found in residents of Qena province in Egypt are similar to dengue fever, Kazpravda.kz reports with reference to the press service of the Committee for Sanitary and Epidemiological Control of the Ministry of Health of the Republic of Kazakhstan.

According to the information of the Ministry of Health and Population of Egypt, published on July 16, 2023 in the media, there have been cases of an unknown disease in Egypt, the symptoms of which are similar to dengue fever.

Dengue fever is a viral infection that is transmitted to humans by infected mosquitoes through bites, but not by airborne droplets from person to person.

The disease spreads in tropical and subtropical countries. According to the WHO, more than 100 countries in Africa, the Americas, the Eastern Mediterranean, Southeast Asia and the Western Pacific are endemic.

It manifests itself in the form of fever, headache, body aches, nausea, but in most cases it disappears without symptoms, and the patient's condition improves after 1-2 weeks.

“In Kazakhstan, single cases of the disease are registered annually. This year, 2 cases of dengue have been reported among arrivals from Thailand.

In order to timely identify and provide medical assistance to patients, a remote measurement of body temperature is carried out at the sanitary-quarantine point at the entrance to the country at the airport, railway stations and automobile points,” the CSEC said.

To avoid getting dengue in endemic countries, you need to:

- use means of protection against mosquito bites;

- close windows and doors;

- Seek medical attention if symptoms appear.
