22.02.2023

Issues of preparation for spring field work were considered at a government meeting chaired by Prime Minister Alikhan Smailov, Kazpravda.kz reports citing the press service of the head of the Cabinet of Ministers.

Akims of the Zhambyl region Nurzhan Nurzhigitov and Zhetysu region - Beibit Isabayev, as well as the first deputy akim of the Akmola region Malgazhdar Tatkeev informed about the readiness of the regions for the sowing campaign.

After listening to the speakers, the Prime Minister stressed that all necessary measures had been taken to ensure spring field work. In particular, subsidized diesel fuel has been allocated, financing of forward purchases and subsidies is planned. In total, 140 billion tenge is provided for the upcoming campaign.

“The state support provided requires the fulfillment of certain conditions by the farmers. This is strict observance of agricultural technologies, timely application of fertilizers and plant protection products,” said Alikhan Smailov.

The Head of Government focused on the fact that the volume of fertilizer application in the republic is only 26% of the scientific need. At the same time, 12 factories for the production of fertilizers operate in the country, and the state subsidizes the purchase of such products by farmers.

“It is necessary to focus all these production facilities primarily on the domestic market. According to experts, due to insufficient application of mineral fertilizers to the fields, our farmers annually lack about 10 million tons of high-quality wheat. This is almost half of the harvest,” he said.

At the same time, according to the prime minister, there are losses from soil degradation and weeds infesting fields. In addition, mechanisms for reducing the areas of water-intensive crops have not been sufficiently developed, proper explanatory work has not been carried out among farmers, and alternative options for further activities have not been proposed. In this regard, the Ministry of Agriculture, together with other state bodies and akimats of the regions, was instructed to intensify work in this direction.

The Head of Government pointed out that there should be special control in terms of the distribution of preferential diesel fuel.

“We must not allow speculation and the creation of artificial shortages. With regard to operators who sell distributed diesel fuel "on the side", the most stringent measures must be taken," Alikhan Smailov emphasized.

According to him, it is required to create a database of agricultural producers in the territorial context with data on the total area of sown land and the need for fuel and lubricants.

In conclusion, the Prime Minister outlined the need to take measures to organize phytosanitary measures, fertilize, provide the southern regions of the republic with irrigation water, as well as sow the required volume of socially significant and fodder crops.
