The ban on the export of pike perch and catfish has been extended in Kazakhstan

09.02.2024

Citizens cannot export pike perch and catfish in unprocessed form under current restrictions,  Kazpravda.kz reports with reference to the Fisheries Committee of the Ministry of Ecology

As specified, on March 30 last year, by order of the Ministry of Ecology and Natural Resources, a ban was introduced on the export of pike perch and catfish in unprocessed form for a period of 6 months. The ban is valid from April 15 to October 15, 2023.

Then the department analyzed the economic efficiency of the imposed restrictions. Experts noted positive dynamics in terms of growth in production of finished fish products and the number of jobs.

Thus, on January 19, 2024, the ministry extended the ban on the export of pike perch and catfish in unprocessed form for another six months. The ban has been in effect since February 5 and will last until August 5 this year.

In addition, within the framework of their assigned competence, experts are discussing the introduction of quantitative restrictions (quotas) on the export of the most commercially and gastronomically valuable species of fish in unprocessed form, such as roach, roach, carp, pike, perch and bream.

— A working commission is being formed to travel to the Atyrau region to assess the state of fish processing facilities, ensure veterinary and sanitary safety, develop fishing quotas, as well as the level of profitability of exported fish products of fisheries entities operating in the water bodies of the Zhaiyk-Caspian basin. Based on the results of the work of this commission, an appropriate decision will be made, says the press release.

The Ministry of Ecology emphasized that the information from the Caspian news channel that the department has introduced a ban on the export of roach, roach, carp, pike, perch and bream in unprocessed form does not correspond to reality.
